Factors to Consider When Deciding Which Items to Store

When you run out of space, or begin a move and choose a storage facility, you’ll be presented with the opportunity to clear out some of your clutter.  However, it can be difficult to decide which items are clutter and which items should be kept. Here are a few factors to consider when deciding which items to store.

Frequency of Use
Consider how often you use something when you are deciding whether to store it or give it away. If you have not used an item in many months, you are probably unlikely to use it again, unless of course it’s a seasonal item. Discard items you are unlikely to use instead of keeping them in  your storage unit .

Current Value
Regardless of how much you initially paid for something, think about what it means to you right now. If you are holding on to something because it was expensive when you bought it, you may be keeping it for the wrong reasons.  If it does not mean anything to you today, it could simply be taking up space and causing clutter. You have already purchased the item, but you can possibly save yourself some stress by doing away with it if it no longer has any personal value. You can try selling or donating it.

Purpose
Consider the purpose of an item when you are deciding whether or not it will go into storage. Tools that serve multiple purposes help to avoid the buildup of clutter in your living space by reducing your need for additional items. Additionally, outdated items that are no longer efficient should be discarded rather than stored.
